Authorities have reported considerable property damage in the Beaver Crossing and Cordova areas. The Garland area has also been impacted by the storm. The Damage at this time is primarily to rural farmsteads, homes, rooftops, and trees. Full extent of the damage is being assessed at this time.
Down Power lines, flooding, and washed out roads pose a safety risk for individuals in the area. The public and residents should stay clear of the impacted areas. Entry into the area is NOT ADVISED. Emergency personnel, Road crews and the power company are working hard to repair the damage.
The Red Cross, Salvation Amy, and Four Corners Health Department is participating in providing shelter and emergency needs. Centennial High School serves as a temporary shelter. A volunteer center is in the process of being created for donations and assistance.
There are no reported serious physical injuries or deaths at this time.
An Emergency Volunteer Center will be set up Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 8 am- 4 pm at the Old Gymnasium in Utica at 4th and F Street. This center will be used to register and assign any volunteers willing to assist with general cleanup following the tornado in the Beaver Crossing/Cordova area. To volunteer, you must be at least 19 years old.
For those interested in volunteering, please bring or wear the following:
- Driver’s License or other government photo I.D.
- Boots or sturdy leather shoes (No tennis shoes, flip flops or sandals)
- Long pants
- Appropriate clothing to work outdoors
- If available, safety glasses and/or ear protection.
