Week 4

Monday

Bellringer

Test corrections(if you did not get 100%), Ch 7 vocab, and 7.1 exercises from Friday.

This should have all been done last week.

Objectives

  •  Distinguish between a parameter and a statistic.

  •  Use the sampling distribution of a statistic to evaluate a claim about a parameter.

  •  Distinguish among the distribution of a population, the distribution of a sample, and the sampling distribution of a statistic.

  • Determine whether or not a statistic is an unbiased estimator of a population parameter.

  • Describe the relationship between sample size and the variability of a statistic.

Agenda

Finish work from last week

Tuesday

Bellringer

Watch this video on Sample proportions

Objectives

  • Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution of a sample proportion Check the 10% condition before calculating
  • Determine if the sampling distribution of proportions is approximately Normal.
  • If appropriate, use a Normal distribution to calculate probabilities involving proportions.

Assignments

7.2 exercises # 27, 28, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 42

I published the 7.1 exercise corrections in Google Classroom. I want everyone to attempt the problems before I post corrections. This is why I need everyone to be consistent with the daily work. In the future if I publish a set of corrections before you post your answers to a set of homework the max you can get for that assignment will be 80%. if you do not know how to do a problem please email me, you can also turn in an assignment with a question unanswered, but you must have most of the assignment done. You then can turn in corrections after I post the answers. I am adding video explanations of all the evens, odd answers are in the back of the book.

Wednesday

Bellringer

Central Limit theorem and Sample means

Objectives

  • Understand the central limit theorem

  • Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution of a sample mean.

Agenda

Watch the first 3 videos on the Khan Academy website. No written work today just watching the 3 videos and reading

Assignment

Read pg 450 - 461

Thursday

Bellringer

Review 10% rule When sample is less than 10% of population

and Large Counts rule when n is large the sampling distribution is normal.

Objectives

  • Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution of a sample mean xbar. Check the 10% condition before calculating .

  • Explain how the shape of the sampling distribution of xbar is affected by the shape of the population distribution and the sample size.

  •  If appropriate, use a Normal distribution to calculate probabilities involving xbar.

Agenda
