Forget Fast Fashion with FCCLA

About Me

Hi!

My name is Larissa Embree, I'm 17 years old, and I am currently in my senior year of high school. This is my fourth year as a member of my schools chapter of FCCLA and my second year as Publications Officer. I love writing, my favorite show is Gilmore Girls and I'm absolutely obsessed with coffee. I have been interested in fashion my whole life. I've been watching fashion videos on Youtube since middle school. When I got my very first paycheck from my very first job, the first thing I did was sign up for a subscription to Vogue Magazine. You can't always tell I'm into fashion just by looking at me because I'm in a very committed relationship with sleep and am way too lazy to wake up early enough to put an outfit together before school, but shopping, making alterations, and putting together outfits is one of my favorite things to do.

I have created this website as a way to organize and promote my STAR Project for FCCLA this year. STAR Projects are competitive events in which FCCLA members are recognized for proficiency and achievements in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and/or career preparation.

Why I Chose Fast Fashion For my Project

Something I have been learning a lot about recently is fast fashion and I have become very passionate about the issue. I'm a big fan of thrift shopping, but a large portion of my clothing has always come from the stores I can find in the mall, like forever 21 or H&M. Once I learned about all the harm fast fashion was doing, I knew I needed to make as big of an effort to build a more sustainable closet as I could, but I also feel like just focusing on my own closet isn’t enough. I had never really thought about how clothing that I purchase could affect anyone other than myself, so many others probably haven't either. I decided that choosing fast fashion as my STAR Project was a great way to not only motivate myself to build a more sustainable wardrobe, but also to educate others on the dangers of fast fashion and help spark a change in community.
