In social studies, the students start the year with a review of world geography. This includes many types of map skills which lay the groundwork for the primary focus, which is the Ancient Civilizations. Students participate in many activities to learn about the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, the Indus Valley, the Chinese, the Greeks, and the Romans. A short study of the European Middle Ages ends our curricular year.

Science covers a variety of topics that start at Outdoor Education. The students focus on life science with the dissection of owl pellets, nature hikes, and water exploration. As the year progresses, the students study biomes and plant and animal adaptations. The state science assessments are addressed through the study of rocks, minerals and the Earth's crust as well as the solar system.

6th Grade writing focuses upon the "Six Traits of Writing." Each core teacher teaches a section of writing and all students have one period of writing each day.

Throughout the year, the math curriculum is broken into four major areas. These areas include number sense (ex.-prime and composite numbers, prime factorization, experimental notation, etc.) , geometry (ex.-perimeter, circumference, area, volume, and surface area of geometric shapes) , algebraic concepts (ex.-solving one step equations, solving equations with respect to order of operations, etc.) and data/analysis and probability (graphs and data charts, finding mean, median, mode, and range of data, discovering theoretical and experimental probability. Each area also includes more concepts that can be found in the state math standards. Students are given local and state assessments on these concepts to check for progress and understanding.
